The Chiang Mai Women’s Prison is one of two main prisons in Chiang Mai, with the men’s prison located north of Chiang Mai. The Chiang Mai Women’s Prison is a fairly progressive prison, as far as Thai prisons go, with various programs in place for current and former prisoners. Obviously, only women are housed in the Chiang Mai Women’s Prison, and transgender or ladyboys are housed at the aforementioned men’s prison. 

The women at the Chiang Mai Women’s Prison are afforded opportunities to get back to a normal life after their cases are over, which is a welcome advancement for the Thai prison system.
