Educational Trip to Hong Kong
Part of Thailand Bail’s legal team, as well as one of its international case specialists, recently went on an educational trip to Hong Kong to study the legal system of Hong Kong, comparing it to the legal system of Thailand. The trip took place over the course of 3 nights and 4 days, and Thailand Bail’s legal team was able to tour parts of the courts and prison system, as well as discuss Thai law with lawyers in Hong Kong. Thailand Bail’s lawyers were able to see a world-class city by staying in the famous Central district. The legal team visited the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeals, which is situated in a small park next to a cathedral. The trip ended with a visit to the southern peninsula of Stanley, where the notorious Stanley Prison stands. Some of Hong Kong’s most hardened criminals are housed there, and our legal team got to visit some of the prisoners serving extended sentences.
Overall, the purpose of the trip was for Thailand Bail’s legal team to continue to be influenced by world-class cities and legal systems. As many of our clients are not Thai, it is impotent for us to keep in touch with both the technical details of the Thai legal system, as well as to keep abreast of developments in countries usually considered to be more developed. In this way, we are able to understand our clients as well as understand the legal system. Many lawyers in Thailand are unable to understand the point of view of their clients, and they end up giving up. In contrast, Thailand Bail’s legal team understands a Western perspective on legal proceedings in Thailand, and we are able to meld that understanding with our deep knowledge of Thailand’s laws.
