if a defendant with a major drug case is housed in the Bam Bat (Prison) – Bail Successful and Case Closed in 2 weeks of arrest with no prison time, no blacklisting, no deportation, and no time in the IDC
This success story relates to a recent case Thailand Bail concluded in favour of our client, “Ms. Oksana” (not her real name). Ms. Oksana was charged with theft from a large store in Bangkok. Before we were hired for the case, Ms. Oksana tried to negotiate with the store manager before the police came, but this failed, and the store manager refused to discuss the matter. Within 15 minutes, the police from a major police station in Bangkok showed up and brought the accused to the police station for further questioning. The accused was not allowed to speak to a lawyer until he next day, when we were informed of the situation. A friend of hers back in her home country of Russia had found out and called Thailand Bail.
In times like these, our lawyers and legal staff try to put themselves in the shoes of the arrested person and the friends and family of the arrested person. It is stressful to get arrested in Thailand, and if you do ever get arrested in Thailand, you will know that it is difficult to control the situation. Most of the police do not speak English or other language besides Thai language, and they often push you into signing documents you cannot understand.
Bail Success
As soon as we found out about Ms. Oksana’s arrest, we were able to send an international case manager to see her at the detention room under the Bangkok Criminal Court. We informed her of what was going on and got copies of the initial case files. Following this, we prepared and sent a proposal for her bail, which was accepted. We successfully applied for bail for the accused person and provided our law firm’s guarantee for her as well.
Criminal Defense for the Theft Case After Bail
After being released on bail from the Bangkok Criminal Court, we offered to represent the accused in her case. Since we were successful with bail and offered a reasonable legal fee for this work, Ms. Oksana accepted our proposal. Thailand Bail finds that when we are able to prove we can do professional and trustworthy work, we are hired to do the full case.
This is a very important part of our success story, since we have seen many people arrested in Thailand – who use other lawyers who are not familiar with these types of cases – get prison time for theft charges. It is not strange to see a foreigner or Thai receive 6 – 12 months in prison (not suspended) for theft. The Thai courts have really been cracking down on theft cases in the last 4-5 For example.
No Prison, No IDC, No Blacklisting
Thailand Bail worked hard to petition the relevant authorities to complete the investigation, and we also provided additional statements on behalf of our client. It required around 50-55 hours of work to complete the petitions and perform the other professional legal work, but the result was well worth it. The case was settled with no prison time, a small fine, no deportation, no time in the IDC (Immigration Detention Centre), and no blacklisting. If you do some research online, you will discover that this is very difficult to achieve nowadays.
